Twink – SUPERCUTE!

Twink - Supercute!

Yikes, I bet you thought this was going to go another direction, right? Smooth lads and tawdry scenes?

Well, not quite. It’s actually a toy surprise in every song.

So, Twink (yeah, that’s a Twink link) is a toy piano band. Mike Langlie of Boston, Massachusetts, apparently fell in love with toy pianos while perusing a thrift store, and the rest is a creative rocket ship that took off.

With a majority of the sounds being produced by the venerable toy piano in question, you can hear toy drum sounds, samples, noises, clicks, beeps, and other sophomoric onomatopoeia peppered throughout the music. One would think it’d be an infuriating mess of idiocy, but it’s quite polished, melodic and a pleasant listen. Great for parties, ice cream sales, birthdays, disturbing the squares, extended controlled substance use in wayward forests, pretty much anything you can think of.

“Supercute,” is the album that came out in 2004, and I found it in Reno’s rock-solid establishment, Recycled Records. Intrigued by the potential of a bunch of toys being used to make songs, I listened. I couldn’t stop laughing. Especially entertaining is the childish remake of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” which I believe is a vast improvement on the original. Twink also has other releases, such as a self-titled album, “The Toy Box,” “The Broken Record,” “Ice Cream Truckin’,” and “A Very Fine Adventure.” All are available for a listen and purchase by clicking here.

Keep it cute!

Ledbury v. Fat Duck? For me, Ledbury, easily. Interesting you brought up Bruno Loubet – when I first wrote about the Ledbury, I was most impressed by the service, which I thought was the best of what I consider &qtn&;Americaotquou; service. : )
