Illustrated Huxley vs. Orwell

Here’s something interestingAn illustrated comparison of the overarching themes of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World vs. George Orwell’s 1984 with words taken from Neil Postman’s Amusing Ourselves to Death:  Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business.

In one corner, we have the suppression of information and perpetuation of violence to keep citizens in line.   In the other corner, we have the washing over of the whole of society with pleasure and distractions to keep citizens in line.

Both of these themes can be found pulsing through our modern society, of course.  It is more expedient to prevent dissent, but our governments are not above suppressing it should prevention fail.

Go read the whole thing, and a few of the comments, too.
